We have a new game. It is called Rush, and it is the first thing on CubersDen that is not about solving the cube at all. Your smart cube becomes a game controller.
How it works
A card with a move slides toward a line: R, U', F2. The same face glows on the big cube on screen, with an arrow showing which way to turn. You turn that face on your real cube before the card reaches the line. Hit it and the card bursts, you hear a note, and the next card is already on its way. Miss it, or turn the wrong face, and you lose one of your three lives.
The game speeds up as you go. First only simple quarter turns, then primes, then double turns, and later whole triggers like the sexy move as one card. The lane also follows your own pace: play fast and the cards come fast.
Three ways to play
- 30 s Sprint and 60 s Classic: as many moves as you can before the clock runs out.
- Endless: no clock, it ends only when you miss three times.
Your score grows with your streak: ten hits in a row doubles the points, more hits take it to ×3 and ×4. One miss and the multiplier resets, so accuracy matters as much as speed.
The leaderboard
Every week has its own board for each length, and everyone plays the same sequence of moves that week, so it is a fair race. Your best run of the week counts. There is also an all-time board. Sign in before you play, so your runs are saved. See this week's board.
What you need
A smart cube: MoYu, GAN or QiYi, connected in Chrome or Edge on a computer or Android phone (Safari and iPhone browsers do not support Bluetooth cubes yet). Hold the cube any way you like: the game starts with two turns, R and U, and reads how you hold it from them. No smart cube yet? You can try Rush with the keyboard (u, r, f, l, d, b, Shift for the prime) as practice; keyboard runs are not ranked.
What is next
Rush is on the website today. The iPhone and Android apps get it next, with the same game and the same boards. After that comes a PLL mode: a case appears and you have a few seconds to solve it. Tell us what you think, and send us your scores.
